On Monday 25th November, Year 9 pupils attended a fascinating talk delivered by Saradhi Rajan – a successful entrepreneur. Mr Rajan spoke to us about starting up a business, the practicalities of running a business and the positives and negatives of starting a business.
The key message that we got from the talk was the importance of scalability – you start small and slowly work your way up. That is how the likes of Starbucks and McDonald’s became so successful.
Mr Rajan emphasised the important skills that you need when starting your own business, such as resilience, determination and a positive mind set. He gave an example of J.K. Rowling who had to keep trying in order to make a success of her Harry Potter books.
If we want to start a business, we need to have an idea that we are passionate about – Mr Rajan made it clear that if your aim when starting a business was to make lots of money then you would likely fail.
It was fascinating to listen to Mr Rajan, in particular his advice and listening to his own personal experiences.
