Filton, Bristol

The Fuellers, along with the Carmen and the Air Fuel and Sustainable Energy Association AFSEA  were invited to visit Rolls Royce at Filton, Bristol. The event consisted of a series of presentations and discussion panels on areas of interest to Rolls Royce and the livery Companies in energy. It included small nuclear modules, (SMR) synthetic fuels (SAF) and the future strategic direction of RR for carbon reduction and zero emission to 2050.

Memorable quotes included “

“If world kerosene production were the contents of a wine bottle, we have produced just one drop of SAF to date”.

“First factory production of SMR is targeted at 2034”.

“Gas turbines will power aviation to 2050  with increasing SAF use. 2050-2070 could see other fuels like hydrogen being introduced.”

“Unlike the past which used coal, then gas, future energy will rely on a diversification of energy sources of which nuclear will be an essential component”

Master Fueller Elena Oderstone, Master Carmen and AFSEA thanked our hosts  and RR executive and Fueller Tom Burgess for a very interesting day,
